Each emergent reader booklet contains 8 pages: the title page with 7 additional pages containing common words associated with Earth Day such as pollution, nature and water. Also included are suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. Students first read and cut out the booklet that contains text and images. They then sketch and create their own version using the text only template. The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review and practice pronunciation of the vocabulary. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures on the Smart Board that correspond to the text.
Spanish Recycling Container Sketch and Label Vocabulary Activity - Students sketch and label on the recycling containers 10 items that can be recycled. There are 2 designs from which to choose. Students will enjoy practicing their speaking skills and showing off their creations as they proudly present their recycling sketches to their classmates! Spanish Thanksgiving Skit / Reader's Theater, and Translations - This is a 30 line dialogue for 6 people that can be used as a skit or a reader's theater, if desired. The 6 people are preparing to eat Thanksgiving dinner. The characters are: Abuelo, Abuela, Javier, Rosa, Mamá, and Papá. The 2 children have conversations with their grandparents while the mom and dad do final preparations for the dinner. They then join the rest at the table. The dialogue contains many Thanksgiving food words, plus many useful phrases such as pásame, claro que sí, te gusta, me encanta, qué lástima, tengo sed, tengo mucha hambre, por supuesto, vale, voy a tomar, and more. The summer vocabulary includes nouns, verbs and adjectives. Sample words are acampar, barbacoa, feria, gafas del sol, lluvia, olas, pescar, playa, traje de baño, vacaciones, and viajar.
Several words are repeated which makes the puzzles more challenging. Just photocopy enough for class sets (1 for every 2 students if working in pairs, or 1 per student if working alone), cut and fasten with a paper clip. Distribute to students and challenge them to reassemble the puzzles as quickly as possible. There is a list of all words alongside the puzzles in Spanish and English. These can be used as vocabulary bookmarks and references.
The puzzles are great for the end of the school year, for summer school activities, and for back to school review. They're also helpful for sub lessons. After students assemble the puzzles, they can use the vocabulary lists to quiz each other on the vocabulary.
